THE RETURN.
For generations, “El Regreso” has expressed one of the deepest wishes of the people of Arequipa: to return to their homeland after death, so that a flower may grow from their grave and reconnect them with the volcano that has always watched over their city. When the pandemic took the lives of 6,638 Arequipeños, that wish became impossible for thousands of families. So, on Día de Muertos, Cerveza Arequipeña brought “El Regreso” back to life. We reinterpreted one of Arequipa’s most beloved songs as a tribute to those who could no longer return. And we turned its lyrics into reality: we planted 6,638 flowers, one for every Arequipeño who passed away, creating a living tribute at the foot of their volcano. Because sometimes music can do more than remember those we lost. It can bring them home.
